A average wood duck is about 20 in. wide, a moderately sized bird. A wood duck can weigh anywhere from 15 to 30 ounces. They have longer tails than most birds, and have a crest on top of their heads. A wood ducks head is average compared to its body in proportion. Wood duck wings are very long when fully matured, at around 29 inches.
